Environmental Protection Agency EPA says the survey to assess the damage to Villimale reef after a platform used for the construction of the Thila Male bridge ran aground on it last month has been delayed to next Thursday.
Last week, EPA had said that the survey would be held on Saturday.
But EPA had indicated that the survey has now been postponed because of bad weather and cited that it would be difficult to make dives in the area in the current condition.
Bridge Contractor AFCONS of India has now cleared the area of the debris that the fallen from the megastructure.
The massive infrastructure ran aground on the South East corner of Villimale's reef on the 16th of last month and it took the bridge contractor AFCONS of India 12 days to remove the platform from the reef. During that period, the structure continued to strike the reef repeatedly and the vibrations were even felt on the island.
The EPA had said that if the reef was damaged due to the incident, it would take the appropriate action as required by the law.
