Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid has traveled to India on a two-day trip.

His visit is more related to his role as the President of the UN General Assembly rather than the Foreign Ministry of the Maldives.

Shahid is expected to meet several high-ranking officials from India including Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar as well as Indian Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra and meet with UN officials in India.

The UN had said the UNGA President's fund would bear the cost of his trips abroad as well as for three of his staff.

While, Shahid has traveled to India, Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed is currently in the country on an unofficial trip.

The Parliament has confirmed his trip to India but stopped short of saying why the Speaker traveled to India and when he would return.
