In a flurry of developments, Police have arrested a total of three suspects in relation to the abduction of journalist Ahmed Rilwan and the brutal murder of blogger Yamin Rasheed.
Police had earlier arrested social media activist 30-year-old Ismail Abduraheem Adam under a court order while he was sitting at a cafe in Male' City.
Ismail was arrested back in 2015 after he was caught trying to enter worn-torn Syria via the Turkish border.
Reports had later come in saying that police had also arrested Ahmed Ismail, 30, who has a drug-related criminal past.
Police confirmed both these arrests along with the apprehension of 40-year-old Ahmed Muaz who they say were all arrested in connection to the disappearance of Ahmed Rilwan and the brutal murder of blogger Yamin Rasheed.
Police said that all three have been accused of planning these crimes as well as executing the crimes and further instigating terrorism-related crimes.
Ahmed Rilwan was last seen being forced into a car in August of 2014 and is believed to have been killed while Yamin was stabbed multiple times in the stairway of his house back in 2017.
