An awareness program initiated by Youth Ministry has taught its participants that performing prayers during school hours is considered an early sign of extremism.
This was taught during the 'Hafthaares' program conducted by the Ministry at Raa Atoll Ungoofaaru last Saturday. In the session, it was taught that students who perform prayers during school hours are most likely to fall under extremism.
The participants of the awareness workshop were also taught that early warning signs of extremism include students who avoid school assembly songs, teenagers who keep beards, as well those who drop out of studies.
Youth Ministry and the Raa Atoll council were unavailable for comment on the matter.
But a photo tweeted by the Ministry showed a whiteboard with these factors listed as early warning signs of extremism.
The photo was later deleted by the Ministry.
