President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has met with the leader of the Jumhooree Party and MP for Maamigili Constituency Gasim Ibrahim at his resort, Sun Island.
President Solih along with some members of his cabinet were given a red-carpet welcome as they arrived at Maamgili airport en route to Sun island resort.
While photos of the meeting have circulated on social media, it showed that several MPs who back President Solih accompanied him to the unofficial meeting thought Gasim's political partners were missing from the meeting.
Neither the government nor the Jumhooree party has confirmed the details of the talks held between the two leaders.
The talks came a few days after President Solih announced his bid for re-election in the 2023 Presidential Elections. In his rare appearance in front of the media after more than 300 days, President Solih said he is confident that he can win the election with the backing of a coalition and that MDP alone cannot triumph.
Meanwhile, MP Gasim had reiterated his wish to compete in the upcoming election.
