The Foreign Ministry has confirmed that a Maldivian family stuck in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv has now crossed the border into Hungary.

The Ministry informed that the family of four, including two children, has now entered Hungary.

The Ministry also said that it had been working to safely evacuate the 8 Maldivians stuck in the border city of Kharkiv, where Ukrainian and Russian forces have been exchanging fire on its streets.

In its latest update, the Ministry confirmed that the 8 Maldivians have now begun their journey towards the west of the country. The Ministry had said before that the Ministry had been in contact with the Maldivians there and that Minister Abdullah Shahid himself had called them.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry said that it would offer financial support to Maldivians currently in Belarus and Russia who wish to return home amid the military escalation in the region.

It had said that universities in both the countries are holding classes as usual and that it had asked the governments to push for online classes as well considering the circumstances.

While 9 Maldivians remain in Ukraine, there are 88 local students in Russia and 137 Maldivians in Belarus.
