George Corbin, who had greatly contributed to initiating the tourism industry in the Maldives, says the future of Maldivian tourism looked bright, despite room for progress.

The tourism Consultant made the comments in his meeting with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih at the President's Office today.

Discussions at the meeting focused on ways to strengthen the Maldives’ tourism sector further.

Speaking with Corbin, President Solih welcomed him to the Maldives and expressed his gratitude for his participation in the events held to mark the 50th anniversary of the Maldives’ tourism industry.

President Solih went on to speak about the administration’s commitment to developing the tourism sector and highlighted the recent introduction of homestay tourism in the Maldives.

Corbin described the Maldives’ tourism sector's progress as "superb" and said the future looked bright, despite room for progress. He went on to highlight the importance of attracting more middle-class travelers.

President Solih and Corbin also spoke about strengthening the domestic transportation network, with Corbin describing the building of new domestic airports as a positive development. The two went on to discuss ways to ease travel for tourists from distant markets like the Americas.

George Corbin is revered as one of the pioneers of the Maldivian tourism industry, as he greatly contributed to the introduction of tourism to the Maldives with his first visit to the Maldives in 1972 as an Italy-based diving tour operator.
