Male' City Mayor Dr. Mohmed Muizzu says although the government had announced that it would allocate 1000 land plots from Hulhumale' to Male' residents, the government had failed to inform the City Council on the decision.

Expressing his concern, Mayor Muizzu said that although the City Council had pressed the government on the housing plights of Male' city residents, none of the government agencies had informed the City Council after it had taken a decision on the matter.

The Mayor said that he came to know about the decision from the news and that he had also read about how Housing Minister Mohamed Aslam had said that the government would seek recommendations from Male' Area MPs on how to make the allocation criteria for the land plots.

Muizzu complained that neither President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih nor Housing Minister Aslam had answered his calls or returned his calls on the matter. He added that the City Council would formally send a letter to the authorities to seek clarification on the development.

The Male' City Mayor pointed out that the government had excluded the City Council from the decision-making process and that the Decentralization Act states that the City Council should be given the chance to participate in the process.
