Health Protection Agency HPA has reported a total of 242 new cases on Monday as the number of pandemic cases rises in the country.

HPA said yesterday that 3,740 samples were tested for COVID in the last 24 hours and that 1,293 samples were from the Greater Male' Area.

It said out of these, 97 samples tested positive for COVID-19 and that the positivity rate in the capital has now reached 7 percent.

HPA also reported another 78 new cases from the inhabited islands and a further 66 cases from operational resorts. HPA reported another case from a safari.

Yesterday's new cases take the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the country to a staggering 96,294.

HPA had said that there are 2,609 active cases of the pandemic in the country and that 12 remained hospitalized for further treatment.

The Agency had confirmed that 263 people have now been killed in the pandemic in the Maldives since April 2020.

The latest death came from Addu City where an 82-year-old local man succumbed to his death while under treatment at Addu COVID Management facility.
