The Criminal Court says the prime suspect in the attack against the Speaker of the Parliament earlier this year would be sentenced this Tuesday.

The court said Aduham Ahmed Rasheed, who had detonated the IED that targeted the former President, would be given a 23-year-jail sentence.

Aduham had been formerly accused of four charges.

These include carrying out an act of terrorism, conspiracy to commit an act of terrorism, attempted murder using a sharp object or dangerous weapon, and supporting a terrorist organization.

The Court had decided earlier to hold his whole trial behind closed doors after the defendant had requested such conditions citing that his trial could reveal state secrete that threaten national security.

If he is found guilty of all four charges, he would be subject to a 37-year jail sentence.

But the defendant had earlier agreed to a plea deal with the State and is expected to receive a cut-down jail sentence because of the plea bargain with the State.
