Football Association of the Maldives FAM says it is looking to set up more ticket counters for future matches of the ongoing SAFF Championship 2021.

This comes amid anger from supporters after ticket counters at the national stadium were shut down as tickets for the match between the Maldives and Sri Lanka were supposedly sold out within an hour after they went on sale.

A crowd gathered outside the stadium yesterday, demanding an explanation from FAM officials and calling for their resignation.

Speaking to "The Press" today, FAM Secretary General Hussain Jawaz said that the association was working to open other ticket counters for upcoming matches in the championship.

He said that two counters would be opened at the social center in Male' and that this would ease difficulties faced by supporters when buying match tickets.

Jawaz also urged supporters not to buy and sell tickets on the black market and that the FAM was monitoring these transactions closely.

Earlier, Youth Minister Ahmed Mahloof had also promised supporters easier access to match tickets for upcoming matches.

Mahloof, who resumed his duties after a 4-month suspension, had apologized for the circumstances that led to the demonstrations outside the national team yesterday.

The Maldives take on Sri Lanka today and hopes to record a second win following the national team's heroics on Thursday when they beat Bangladesh 2-0.

Today's match would be Lanka's last match and having lost twice and drawn once in the first three matches of the tournament, Lanka has no hope of progressing in the championship.

The Maldives meanwhile need another win to keep their aspirations of retaining the SAFF Championship and hope that Nepal drops points when they take on India later tonight.
