Health Protection Agency HPA has reported 46 new cases of COVID-19 from the Maldives on Friday.

HPA said that out of the 46 new cases 35 were reported from inhabited islands and that only 7 cases were confirmed from the Greater Male' Area. A record low for the capital that was reporting more than 1,000 cases a day earlier in the year.

The Agency added that another 4 cases of COVID-19 were reported from operational resorts.

The new cases take the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the Maldives to a staggering 85,394.

HPA said that 83,809 people have recovered from the illness in the Maldives and that there are still 1,339 active cases of COVID-19 in the country.

HPA added that 15 COVID patients remained hospitalized for further treatment in the country.

The COVID-19 global pandemic has killed 233 people in the Maldives with the latest COVID-19 death in the country from Addu City.

HPA had reported yesterday that on Friday morning at 07:50 am a 97-year-old local man admitted at Addu Covid Management Facility had passed away.

Most of those who had succumbed to the pandemic in the country include elderly locals with underlying health conditions.
