Criminal Court has decided to hold to the trial of Adhuham Ahmed, who is the main culprit behind the May 6th attack against the Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed, behind closed doors.
On the initial hearing of the trial held on the 21st of this Month, Adhuham had confessed to his crimes at the court and the court then proceeded to continue the rest of the hearing behind closed doors as the Defendant's statement may contain information that could endanger national security.
The hearing was closed off upon the request by both Adhuham and the State and although presiding Judge Adam Ahmed had said that journalists would be allowed back in once Adhuham gives his statement, the reporters remained outside for the whole hearing.
It has now been revealed that the whole trial would now be held behind closed doors.
The Prosecutor general's Office had said that the court had decided to conduct the whole proceedings behind closed doors after the defendant had requested the court to do so.
Aduham had been formerly accused of four charges. He said this includes carrying out an act of terrorism, conspiracy to commit an act of terrorism, attempted murder using a sharp object or dangerous weapon, and supporting a terrorist organization.
The defendant had earlier agreed to a plea deal with the State and is expected to receive a cut-down jail sentence because of the plea bargain with the State.
