Transport Ministry says Bangladesh has now been added to the list of countries whose nationals it would issue a driving license without a test in the Maldives.

The Ministry had updated and published the list of countries deemed acceptable by it and Bangladesh joins 25 other countries currently on the list.

It had brought changes to the list with the power vested to the Ministry under the latest amendments brought to the land vehicle act.

The Ministry said citizens of these 26 countries can acquire a driving license in the Maldives without having to sit for a test after they submit a valid driving license issued by their own country.

It said that a fee of MVR 250 would be charged to process the driving license and that although the validity of the submitted license would be ensured online, the applicant must submit a letter from their respective embassies in case the verification process cannot be completed online.

The 26 countries on the transport ministry's list include the country's South Asian neighbors like India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, and Afghanistan as well as partners from the far east including Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, Phillippines, and Singapore.

The list also hosts the UK, US, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, UAE, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
