Vice President Faisal Naseem has visited the “Fiyavathi” State Care Facility located in Hulhumalé City.

The President's Office said that the Vice President toured the premises, holding discussions with the staff and meeting with children under state care at the facility.

It said that during his visit, the Vice President enquired about the facility and services offered and listened to the concerns and issues raised by the children. He was accompanied on this visit by the Minister of Education, Dr. Aishath Ali, Minister of Gender, Family and Social Services, Aishath Mohamed Didi, and the Minister of Home Affairs, Sheikh Imran Abdulla.

The VP's visit to the facility comes amid growing concerns over the state of 'Fiyavathi' after a weekend full of harrowing incidents at the facility. On Friday the facility grabbed the nation's attention after several children at the facility were seen on the roof of the building making several demands.

A fire also broke out in the facility which was promptly extinguished by the employees inside the facility. Security services patrolled the area outside the facility while members of the public were seen gathered around the premises, expressing concern for the children inside the facility.

Meanwhile, the President's Office said that a team from the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services, and the Child and Family Protection Services is currently working towards resolving the issues and looking into the recent occurrences at the “Fiyavathi” facility.

It said that State entities are currently involved in providing the necessary care for the children.
