Speaker of the Parliament and former President Mohamed Nasheed says the Police are capable of investigating the attack against his person earlier this year and that the force has his full confidence.

Nasheed said this in his first news conference after the attack that targeted him back in May. Nasheed sustained near-fatal injuries in the explosion and had been abroad to recuperate.

The Speaker met the media virtually.

Nasheed said that the Police are looking for those who funded the attack against him and they are seeking those who gave the orders for the attack.

Noting that the Police is more than capable of conducting a thorough investigation, Nasheed said that he had full confidence in the Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed and the whole police force.

Nasheed was attacked on 6, May 2021 just outside his house in Male' after assailants detonated an IED strapped to a motorcycle. Nasheed had stepped outside his home to attend an evening engagement and had been on his way to his car when the bomb was detonated.

The Speaker suffered injuries to his head and abdomen while his bodyguards and two civilians also sustained injuries during the attack.

Police have arrested 10 suspects in connection to the attack and the State has charged four of those for the attack.
