Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed 157 new cases of COVID-19 in the country on Saturday as the number of daily cases steadily increases.
HPA said that out of the 157 new cases 106 were reported from the inhabited islands while 45 new cases were confirmed from the Greater Male' Area. The Agency also reported 6 new cases from operational resorts.
HPA had said that the total number of cases reported in the Maldives since March 2020 has now reached 81,810.
It said that the number of active cases in the country is now up to 2,002 and 27 COVID patients remained hospitalized for further treatment.
HPA also said that 79,569 people have now recovered from the illness in the Maldives.
The COVID-19 global pandemic has killed 226 people in the Maldives and most of those who died were elderly locals with underlying illnesses.
HPA had also said that the total number of cases includes 13 deceased positives whose cause of death is not directly due to COVID-19.
