Male' City Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has berated Waste Management Corporation WAMCO after the corporation had issued a statement clarifying a confusion regarding its operations in the Greater Male' Area.

WAMCO's statement came after the Mayor had said that the corporation would resume picking up trash from within the households starting later this month.

The corporation had ceased this last year amid the COVID-19 pandemic and had requested its customers to keep their household trash outside on the curbs.

However, the corporation had denied the Mayor's announcement and had said that it is yet to decide on such operational changes.

Managing Director of WAMCO Adam Mohamed said via Twitter that the corporation will announce the changes after consulting with the Government and Health Protection Agency HPA.

This promoted a fiercely worded tweet from Mayor Muizzu in which he said that it is highly irresponsible to make such untrue statements when the City Council had a meeting with the MD and his WAMCO team about these changes

Mayor Muizzu said that MD Adam and his team had agreed to adhere to the changes at the said meeting.

He went onto say that he hoped that WAMCO would act upon the commitments given in meeting with the City Council.
