Elections Commission says voting in the by-elections for the Women's Development Committee in five islands has now begun.
The Commission said that voting would be held in Male', Haa Dhaalu Nolhivaram, Noonu Kendhikulhadhoo, Noonu Magoodhoo, Alifu Alifu Feridhoo, and Kaafu Dhiffushi.
It said that voting had begun at 08:00 am today and that it would continue till 03:00 pm in the afternoon.
The Elections Commission also said that 4937 people are eligible to vote in the by-elections.
The Commission had said that voters registered at Villimale and Hulhumale can vote at the ballot boxes kept at Male'.
It also said that those who had registered at other locations outside Male' had been changed to the locations of their permanent addresses.
The Commission had asked voters to register online on 22 July if they were voting from a location other than where they were registered to vote.
While the re-registration deadline had been up on the 26th of July, the commission had said that 30 people re-registered during the period.
It said that this includes 27 from Alifu Alifu Feridhoo and 3 from Noonu Magoodhoo.
