Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has appointed his brother Nazim Sattar as his legal representation during the trials in relation to the attack against the former President.
In a letter to Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem, Nasheed confirmed that he had appointed his brother as his lawyer for the upcoming trials.
Nasheed had highlighted in the letter that recently the Prosecutor General had said that his office had not received the speaker's statement in relation to the attack against him last May.
The Speaker had also said that the Prosecutor General himself had asserted the importance of Nasheed's statement to the case.
Speaking at a press conference earlier this week, PG Shameem had said that his office is yet to receive the speaker's statement and had said that his statement is vital as Nasheed is a victim of the attack.
Nasheed remains in the UK for further treatment for the injuries he had sustained in the near-fatal attack.
The state had formally charged four suspects in the relation to the case and is expected to begin their trials next month.
