A bodyguard who was on Speaker Mohamed Nasheed's security detail on the night of the attack against his person last month is set to undergo an operation to rectify an injury sustained during the incident.
MDP had confirmed via Twitter that Sergent Ilham Adam who had saved the Speaker in the attack is scheduled to undergo surgery for a disc injury in his neck. MDP added that the operation will be performed at Indira Gandhi memorial hospital.
The May 6th attack saw a failed assassination attempt against Nasheed after an IED strapped to a motorcycle was detonated just outside the speaker's residence in Male'.
A total of 6 people had sustained injuries during the attack and this includes Nasheed as well as members of his security detail.
Members of the speaker's security detail had given their statements to the ongoing parliamentary inquiry by the 241 Committee to determine how the speaker's security got breached during the near-fatal attack.
Cabinet ministers, high-ranking officials at both the MNDF and the Police force have also given their statements to the closed-door meetings held by the influential parliamentary committee.
