Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed another COVID-19 death in the country as the pandemic continues to wreak havoc in the island nation.
HPA said in a tweet that earlier today a 51-year-old Maldivian woman brought to IGMH/ER at 04:45 am was declared dead at 05:46 am.
HPA confirmed that this is the 84th COVID-19 death in the country since April 2020.
Today's death is the 11th COVID-19 death this month with 7 deaths reported in one day last week.
Authorities in the Maldives have confirmed that the country is currently fighting off a new strain of the COVID-19 virus and that the new strain is more infectious and that it spreads faster.
HPA had confirmed over 1350 new cases of COVID-19 in the country and had said that this has taken the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the country to a staggering 34,724.
HPA had also said that there more than 8,600 active cases of the pandemic in the country right now and that 230 people who tested positive for the illness are currently hospitalized for further treatment.
