President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has decided to appoint a non-resident Ambassador from the Maldives to Qatar.

This was confirmed by Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid via Twitter.

Shahid, who is accompanying President Solih on his official trip to Qatar and Bangladesh, said that the government of Qatar had welcomed President Solih's decision.

Shahid also said that it is a positive turning point that will take the bilateral relationship between the two countries to new heights, with strengthened cooperation in trade & investments.

This announcement came as President Solih concluded his visit to Qatar on Monday having met Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani for official talks.

During official talks between the two countries, the President and the Emir discussed ways of strengthening the bilateral bond between the two countries.

The two leaders further discussed facilitating good bilateral relations and increase mutual investment opportunities, in addition to a range of other matters of mutual benefit. Following the meeting, President Solih and his delegation attended an official lunch hosted in his honor by Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani.

The President and his delegation will travel next to Bangladesh, where he is to attend the ceremony commemorating the ‘Birth Centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.’
