Health Protection Agency HPA has extended the restrictive measures in place for 7 days in the Greater Male' Area for another week as the number of COVID-19 cases continues to rise across the country.
HPA said in an announcement that it has decided to extend the measures taken for a duration of 7 days by additional 7 days and this includes both the curfew and the vehicle ban currently in place in the Greater Male' Area.
With this change, HPA had also extended the ban on gatherings of more than 5 people in public in the Greater Male' Area while cinemas, movie theaters, public parks, and running tracks must remain close for a further week.
HPA had also banned physical classes for college and university students while schools remained closed as they are currently in the mid-term break.
The Agency had stated that all measures taken until further notice from HPA would also remain in place and that this includes the closure of all pre-schools and daycares while class in gyms would not be allowed.
HPA had also said that people traveling from Male’ to islands, with special permission for essential travel, must have a negative PCR result with a sample taken 72 hours prior to travel until further notice.
The extension of the restrictive measures comes amid a continued rise in COVID-19 cases across the country and especially the Greater Male' Area.
HPA had said last night that another 110 people had tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives on Wednesday and that this includes 84 new cases from the Greater Male' Area, 2 from inhabited islands, and 24 from operational resorts.
This takes the total to 21,144 with 18,534 recoveries. The Pandemic has killed 64 people in the course of almost a year here in the Maldives and this includes 57 locals and 7 foreigners.
