The Elections Commission has urged all eligible voters to complete re-registration in preparation for the local Council elections scheduled for next month.

The Commission had said that voters who are planning to vote at another location other than the one they are currently registered to must re-register for voting.

In a tweet, the President of the Elections Commission Ahmed Shareef had urged voters not to stay till the last minute to complete the re-registration for voting.

He noted that the election schedule is very tight as it is.

The statistics he had shared on Twitter showed that up until the 3rd of this month, only 110 people have submitted their applications for re-registration.

The Commission had said before that it would be accepting re-registration forms from the 2nd to the 11th of this month.

It had also said that only individuals who have relocated since registering on 4th April 2020 must re-register to be included in the voter's list for each ballot box.

Voters can check where they are registered to vote via the commission website or could send an SMS after typing VR followed by a space and their ID card number to 1414.

The local council elections were initially scheduled for April of 2020 but were pushed back due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic.
