Human Rights Commission of the Maldives says it would probe the case of the dead body found at sea near IGMH yesterday.

Police had reported that the dead body of a 31-year-old local man was found at sea near IGMH Friday morning.

Media reports had said that the body had sustained serious injuries although the police have yet to confirm these assertions.

Speaking to ‘The Press’ a media official at the Human Rights Commission said that it was actively investigating the case now and that since it is an on-going investigation, the commission is unable to share more information regarding its probe.

This comes after the Police had decided to perform an autopsy of the dead body after reporting that it cannot confirm whether the individual died of natural causes or not.

Police had also asked those who have been near the Rasfannu Beach area between 9:00 am and 12:00 am on Friday and any individual who has information about the dead body to come forward and aid them in their investigation.

Police urged those who wish to come forward to contact their Serious and Organized Crime Department via its emergency number 911 or 9911099.
