MP for Villimale Constituency Ahmed Usham says touching a person without his/her consent is also considered a crime in the eyes of the law.

This comes after MP of Dhiggaru Constituency Ikram Hassan had been accused of assaulting a member of the Rapid Response Team for attempting to take a COVID-19 sample from the MP.

Commenting on the issue, MP Usham tweeted that an assault does not only occur when a person physically harms another person but if a person touches another without his/her consent that is also considered a crime.

With the incident now becoming a hot topic, MP Ikram had defended his actions yesterday and denied assaulting the female RRT member at the COVID testing center at Maafannu Madhurasaa.

He had said that when the RRT member had attempted to take the COVID-19 sample via his nasal cavity, it had pained him greatly and that he had pushed away the person’s hands because of the pain. He went onto say that if the premises had CCTV cameras the incident would be well justified. It had been reported that police are investigating the incident after it was reported to the law enforcement agency.

The opposition had been quick to condemn the incident and that all should respect the frontline workers who are putting themselves in the most danger while fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.
