Maldivian Authorities haves sent back 200 Bangladeshi nationals back to their homeland today as the government continues with its large-scale repatriation program.

In a tweet, national Carrier Maldivian had said that its chartered flight had departed to Bangladeshi capital Dhaka today with 200 Bangladeshis on board. This is the first repatriation flight chartered by the carrier this month.

Last month, Maldivian had flown 4 chartered flights to the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka repatriating around 800 of its nationals back to their homeland.

The Maldivian government has been working with the Bangladeshi authorities to repatriate its nationals back to the country.

Since April, Maldivian authorities have repatriated more 8000 Bangladeshis living in the country and most of them have been sent aboard Maldivian flights. The government aims to send back around 20,000 undocumented migrant workers back to Bangladesh by the end of the year.

Meanwhile, Health Protection Agency HPA’s latest data on the COVID-19 pandemic shows that 2864 Bangladeshi nationals have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives

It said that this is 27 percent of the total positive cases reported in the country since March.
