Vilimale' constituency lawmaker Ahmed Usham criticizes Health Protection Agency's (HPA) decision to restrict traffic movement between 20:00hrs to 05:00hrs effective Sunday evening.

The lawmaker argues HPA's decision will pose several difficulties for many including taxi-cab drivers as well as passengers without a transport medium of their own.

Moreover, Usham laid harsh criticism on the health authority claiming its decisions appear to create trouble or challenges for the public.

On Saturday evening, during the press conference at Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC), the health authority made confirmation of restricting vehicle traffic between 20:00hrs to 05:00hrs everyday.

Meanwhile, Usham argues such a decision will serve against the public's convenience while he suggested from the authority to make decisions that were more inclined with providing ease for the public.

HPA asserts first time offenders, found in violation of the vehicle restriction, will be advised while repeat offenses will be subjected to a fine of MVR1,000. Furthermore, HEOC during Saturday's press conference claim the authorities will reserve right to tow vehicles if the need arise.

The health authority's stricter move comes as a bid to further wind down public traffic and outside activities as the second wave in Greater Male' Region does not show signs of slowing down with surging positive cases every day.
