Health Protection Agency HPA has implied that 60 percent of the people that have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives are symptomatic.
In a tweet, HPA said that 40 percent of the people with COVID-19 in the country are asymptomatic and asymptomatic patients can also transmit the infection to others.
This means the rest of the 60 percent of people with COVID-19 in the country are symptomatic and show the symptoms of the COVID-19 global pandemic.
The country has been experiencing a surge of new cases in recent weeks with 550 new cases of COVID-19 reported in the Maldives in the past five days.
HPA reported last night that there are currently 2414 active cases of COVID-19 in the country with 146 individuals hospitalized for further treatment.
But the last 48 hours have seen 339 individuals recover from the illness in the country.
A total of 5785 people has tested for COVID-19 in the Maldives.
Since April, 22 people have succumbed to COVID-19 in the country including 17 locals and 5 foreigners.
