Health Protection Agency HPA has reported 78 new cases of COVID-19 in the country as the total number of positive cases climbs past 5500.

In a tweet, HPA said that out of the 78 new cases 74 reported from the Greater Male’ Area while 4 cases of COVID-19 were confirmed from the islands.

The new cases included 46 Maldivians, 25 Bangladeshis, 4 Indians, 2 Sri Lankans, and 1 Nepalese national.

With this, the number of positive cases of COVID-19 has now reached 5572.

HPA also confirmed that 14 islands still have active cases of COVID-19 pandemic.

This includes Haa Alifu Filladhoo, Haa Alifu Ihavandhoo, Haa Dhaalu Navaidhoo, R Hulhudhufaaru, Baa Kamadhoo, B Kudarikilu, Lhaviyani Naifaru, Lhaviyani Hinnavaru, Kaafu Thulusdhoo, Kaafu Maafushi, Faafu Nilandhoo, Vaavu Fulidhoo, Fuvamulah City and Addu City Hithadhoo and Feydhoo.

HPA added that active cases remain in 9 resorts and that this includes 5 tourists and 12 staff.
