Addu City Mayor Abdull Sodiq claims Covid-19 was not on a community outbreak in the city despite discovery of 4 positive cases.
According to Mayor Sodiq, the positive case discovered on Tuesday, 11 August, was an individual who was under home-quarantine after flying into town. He adds prior to the test, the individual had completed the quarantine period.
Earlier, authorities reported the first Covid-19 positive case from Addu City on 8 August, which was discovered from Feydhoo. Two more cases were discovered on the following day from Hithadhoo, followed with the third case from the island reported on Tuesday.
Moreover, Sodiq commented the three positive cases from Hithadhoo included two locals and one Bangladeshi expatriate. He also confirmed the positive case from Feydhoo was a local.
Active cases of Covid-19 have been discovered from Haa Alif atoll Kelaa, Filladhoo and Ihavandhoo, Haa Dhaal atoll Naavaidhoo, Raa atoll Hulhudhuffaaru, Baa atoll Kudarikilu and Kamadhoo, Lhaviyani atoll Hinnvaru, Kaafu atoll Maafushi, Vaavu atoll Fulidhoo along with Fuvahmulah City and Addu City.
Maldives reports a total of 5,157 positive cases so far, inclusive of recoveries and active cases. So far 2,835 individuals have recovered while 20 individuals passed away due to Covid-19, with the most recent case reported on Tuesday.
