Health Protection Agency closes down 20 establishments yesterday for failing to adhere to the agency’s guidelines set to prevent further spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a tweet, HPA had said that 146 establishments were inspected on Tuesday and that 20 of those were shut down.
It said that the establishments that were closed include 8 salons/barber shops, 7 shops, 3 cafés/ restaurants, and 2 gyms.
Since last Wednesday HPA had inspected 830 establishments and ordered the closure of 195 establishments for disobeying HPA guidelines.
HPA had said earlier the establishments that are closed are allowed to reopen once they adhere to the HPA guidelines and only after a re-inspection by the Agency.
The HPA’s large-scale inspection in Male’ Area comes as the country experiences a huge jump in positive cases of COVID-19 with 497 new cases reported in the last three days.
Yesterday, authorities imposed an 8-hour curfew in the Male’ area from 10 pm to 5 am to further deter the spread of the massive outbreak.
The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed 19 lives in the Maldives including 14 Maldivians and 5 foreigners.
