Health Protection Agency HPA has placed Raa Atoll Ungoofaaru under monitoring following the discovery of a COVID-19 case from the island.
Health Emergency Operation Center has confirmed this to ‘The Press’.
Speaking to ‘The Press’ President of Ungoofaaru Council Abdul Naasir Ali said the island was placed under monitoring after a patient treated at Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital UHR tested positive for COVID-19.
The individual who was transferred to Male’ yesterday was initially shifted to UHR from Lhaviyani Olhuvelifushi.
Sources have said that UHR had tested the patient for COVID-19 before transferring the individual to Male’ and that the result had come back negative.
But after IGMH hospital retested the patient upon arrival in the hospital, the individual had tested positive for COVID-19.
Sources have also confirmed that several doctors and nurses at UHR who had contact with the patient had now been placed under home quarantine.
With Ungoofaaru now under monitoring, unauthorized entry and exit from the island are banned as per the guidelines of the Health Protection Agency HPA.
