Education Ministry says all the schools in the Male’ City would revert back to online classes with physical classes now canceled for all the grades as the City faces a massive outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement, the Education Ministry said the Eid al-Adha holidays and mid-term break was previously set to end on the 9th this month but with the recommendation of the Health Protection Agency HPA the ministry has now decided to the extent the school closure in Male’ City for further two weeks.

The Ministry said online classes would continue for the students of all grades and the ministry would revisit the decision after two weeks after considering the COVID-19 situation in the country by then.

It said that the school environment plays a vital role in developing the students psychological and socials skills and but the ministry would always prioritize the health of the students. The Ministry added that with the spike in COVID-19 cases in recent days, the most important thing for the students now is to stay at home with their families.

The Ministry had resumed sessions for grades 1 to 12 in all parts of the country except Male’ City at which students of grades 9 to 12 started attending physical classes in July.
