Health Protection Agency HPA has shut down 22 establishments today for failing to adhere to its guidelines in the fight against COVID-19.
In a tweet, HPA confirmed that it had inspected a total of 135 establishments today. It said that the out of these 22 establishments were closed down for disobeying HPA guidelines to quell the COVID-19 pandemic.
HPA said establishments closed today include 7 café’/ restaurants, 9 shops, 4 salons/barber shops, 1 market, and 1 spa.
Since last Wednesday HPA has closed down 142 of the 510 establishments it has inspected.
Health Emergency Operations Center Spokesperson Dr. Fathimath Nazla Rafeeq had said yesterday that at the beginning of the inspection most of the establishments inspected failed to adhere to the guidelines set by HPA to quell the COVID-19 pandemic but now more and more establishments are following these rules
HPA’s mass inspection in the capital Male’ City coincides with a surge of COVID-19 cases in the country.
A record of 215 cases of the pandemic was reported in the country today with 1 case confirmed from the islands.
In the past two days, two others have died of COVID-19 in the Maldives taking the total number of deaths in the country to 18.
