Health authorities on Monday confirm an elderly man has passed away while being treated after testing positive for Covid-19.
Monday's death marks the 18th such incident in the island nation in relation to the complications arising from the viral pandemic. Meanwhile, authorities claim the deceased was 89 years of age.
Moreover, sources have so far been able divulge only the Health Protection Agency (HPA) designated case number, MAV3283, of the deceased. The victim passed away around 20:57hrs on Monday evening as per local sources.
The elderly victim was first transferred to DH11 ward of Dharumavantha Hospital following rising complications in his health after contracting the viral contagion. He was then transferred to Hulhumale' Medical Center after medical practitioners deduced his conditions were stabilizing.
Members of the victim's family claim he was stabilizing until the time of his demise, as attested by an associate of the family.
Meanwhile it has been further confirmed that some members of the victim's family have tested positive for Covid-19 and were receiving treatment.
Greater Male' Region is currently observing a hike in the spread of Covid-19 with a total of 215 positive cases reported in last 24 hours, of which 149 were locals.
