Health Emergency Operations Center HEOC Spokesperson Dr. Fathimath Nazla Rafeeq said starting Saturday authorities would issue a fine to individuals who don’t wear facemasks in the public.
Speaking at the latest HEOC news conference, Dr. Nazla reaffirmed that wearing facemasks in the public is now mandatory and that police would question those who are seen without wearing a facemask.
Dr. Nazla also said that starting tomorrow such individuals would be fined by MVR 1000 for not wearing a mask in the public.
She also said that members of the general public are now banned from going outside between 11:00 pm and 5:00 am without a valid reason.
Dr. Nazla also authorities would be strengthening their efforts to enforce this ban and that police would be taking necessary action against anyone caught outside during these hours without a valid reason.
The new measures come as the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country has skyrocketed in the last 10 days.
Health Protection Agency HPA had confirmed that there are 3719 positive cases of COVID-19 with over 1000 active cases of the illness in the country.
