Health Minister Abdullah Ameen says the alarms signaling the imminent dangers of the COVID-19 pandemic are growing louder as the country experiences a surge in new cases of the global pandemic.
In a tweet, Ameen said if the public wishes to restore normalcy in their lives, then they should wear masks and maintain social distancing while meeting one another.
He also urged the public to minimize contact with each other and not to go out of the house unless absolutely necessary.
His warning came as the country recorded the highest number of positive cases among locals today with 92 Maldivians confirmed as COVID-19 patients.
With 45 other also testing positive for COVID-19 today, the total number of cases has now surpassed 3500.
Earlier this month, the government had considerably eased the lockdown measures it had taken to deter the COVID-19 pandemic.
It allowed government offices and schools to reopen while also resuming communal prayers in the mosques in the capital Male’ where the outbreak is still rampant.
The government had also given a green signal to cafés, restaurants, and gyms to resume their operations and also allowed all retail shops to begin their businesses.
