Health Protection Agency HPA confirmed a staggering 77 new cases of COVID-19 today as the country remains on the alert for the second wave of COVID-19 infections.

HPA said in a tweet that the 77 new cases included 56 Maldivians, 20 Bangladeshis, and 1 Indian national.

This takes the total number of cases to 3252 in the country.

Meanwhile, HPA said that 36 individuals recovered from the illness today taking the total number of recovered to 2534.

HPA also confirmed there are 688 active cases of COVID-19 in the country. The government is hosting 541 individuals at the isolation facilities as the fight against the global pandemic continues on.

In recent weeks, the number of cases has been increasing each day with the number of Maldivians infected with the illness also on the rise.

The government had eased the lockdown measures considerably at the start of this month with government offices, schools, and mosques all reopened again.
