The Judicial Service Commission JSC has suspended High Court Chief Judge Shujau Usman for a period of two months.
In a statement, JSC said the judge was suspended from the High Court bench to investigate the allegations of misconduct raised against him.
The commission is investigating two separate allegations of misconduct against Judge Shujau.
One allegation reported that the judge had traveled to Gaafu Alifu Gemanafushi on an unofficial trip during the 2018 presidential campaign in a bid to win votes for a candidate.
Another allegation says that he had met with the family of a suspect apprehended under the orders of the Criminal Court and had a discussion about freeing the suspect in return for votes from the family.
The JSC had given judge Shujau seven days to respond to the allegations made against him.
The Judge who had faced allegations of misconduct before was appointed a judge on the High Court bench in 2015 during the tenure of former President Abdullah Yameen.
He was later promoted to the Head of High Court shortly before the presidential elections in 2018.
