An elderly individual under home isolation in Kaafu Atoll Himmafushi has tested positive for COVID-19.
Speaking to ‘The Press’ Vice President of Himmafushi Council Hassan Faiz said that the individual was older than 70 years.
Faiz said the person was placed under home isolation after having a surgery in Male’ and the positive result was confirmed sometime last night.
Himmafushi is the 4th island that saw a person placed under home isolation tested positive for the highly contagious virus now actively spreading in the Capital City.
Such cases have been reported from Haa Dhaalu Nolhivaram, Alif Alif Thoddu, and Gaafu Alifu Maamendhoo too.
The latest statistics by the Health Protection Agency show that the number of positive cases of COVID-19 in the country currently stands at 2617.
The positive cases of COVID-19 include 987 locals as well as 1311 Bangladeshi nationals. It also includes 231 Indians and 45 Nepalese nationals.
The Maldives has reported 13 COVID-19 deaths including 8 Maldivians and 5 foreigners.
