MP for Addu Meedhoo Constituency Rozaina Adam says the police should provide a guideline for the public to protest safely amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a tweet, MP Rozaina said that the freedom of expression and assembly us a constitutional right.

She said that as long as the country is not under lockdown, demonstrations should be allowed with social distancing, masks, and whatever guidelines provided by the Health Protection Agency.

She added that the police should provide a guideline for the public to protest safely.

This comes after the local advocacy group ‘Navaanvai’ held their first protest outside the parliament building today. The demonstrators called for the reform of the parliament voicing concerns that the parliament was enabling the rich and powerful while stealing the workers from their rights and income.
