The Prosecutor General's Office of Maldives have decided to lodge case against Dhiyares - a local online media - for the alleged misrepresentation of facts against Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem and the authority.
According to PG Office in a statement it had denounced the media's claims over PG Shameem advising his staff not to investigate incumbent state aligned politicians regarding the MMPRC scandal.
Prosecutor General Shameem called out the news as clear misinformation and fallacy, adding the act was in an attempt to tarnish the reputation of both him and the judicial authority.
Moreover, PG Shameem asserted the media had not acquired a comment from him or the authority prior to publishing the news. Shameem also noted the essence of transparent and independent journalism involves collecting all essential facts and commentary on a topic before it is shared to the public.
Furthermore Shameem lambasted the online media for its conduct stating it violates the journalism ethics and best practices.
