The laboratory in Addu Equatorial Hospital AEH has processed its first Covid-19 sample today as authorities look to strengthen the country’s testing capacity amid the Covid-19 global pandemic.

This is the first time a Covid-19 test was processed outside of the capital city.

The hospital received the final lab equipment required for the testing on the 14th of this month that included test kits need for PCR testing.

It also said once these installations are completed each region can process 100 to 150 Covid-19 samples a day.

NEOC had said lab techs that have full training on PCR testing machines were in charge of install these machines.
