Health Protection Agency HPA confirms 56 new cases of Covid-19 in the Maldives as authorities ease some of the temporary restrictive measures taken to fight the global pandemic in the country.
In a tweet, HPA confirmed that 18 locals, 35 Bangladeshis, and 3 Indians have now tested positive for Covid-19 in the country.
This takes the total number of cases to 1513 in the country.
More than 500 locals have now contracted the virus, although Bangladeshi nationals living in the country still represented the highest number of cases with over 750 reported positives in the Maldives.
Authorities have confirmed that 242 people have now recovered from the illness in the Maldives.
The Maldives has recorded 5 COVID-19 related deaths since the outbreak began including three locals above 80-years of age and two Bangladeshi nationals living in the country.
Yesterday, the government announced that it would ease some of the temporary restrictive measures taken against Covid-19, especially in the Capital Male’ where the virus is rampant.
