NEOC Spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Azeez says 2255 individuals stranded in Male’ due to its lockdown have now been placed under transit quarantine.
Speaking to the media, Mabrook clarified that 202 people were transferred to the transit quarantine facilities yesterday alone and that a total of 2255 individuals are now being hosted at these facilities.
The government had said that around 5000 people were stranded in Male’ after it was placed under lockdown on 15th April and that a lot of these people were resort staff and individuals who made a short stay trip to the capital city for medicinal purposes.
The government then listened to their woes and decided that these individuals would be allowed to travel back to their islands once they complete a 14 day quarantine period as the virus is spreading rapidly in Male’ City.
Meanwhile, the Tourism Ministry had said earlier that 502 resort staff had reported as being stranded in the capital and that 467 of these individuals have been placed under transit quarantine. The Ministry added that only 35 resort staff remained stranded and that the ministry has been unable to contact 26 of these individuals.
