Maldives law enforcement authorities have confirmed making 282 arrests in total over lockdown violations.
The local law enforcement authority, Maldives Police Service confirmed 234 individuals fined on Sunday, 24 May for violating the regulations while six individuals were arrested on the same day.
Maldives Police Service further commented that a total of 5259 individuals have been fined for breaching the state imposed total lockdown in Greater Male' Region.
Most of the violations and breaches are made in the Maldives capital Male' City, while the satellite town of Hulhumale' reports second highest violations against lockdown.
Outside movements have been both restricted and limited, with only exemptions made for permit holders and specific authorities.
The Greater Male' Region was brought under total lockdown after health authorities discovered the first positive case of Covid-19 from Male' City, on 15 April. Maldives government imposed a lockdown order on the same day extending for a 24-hour period, which was eventually extended for an initial 14-day period.
The lockdown has since extended into May, with the last extension remaining effective until 28th of the month. The government earlier announced it will be relaxing lockdown restrictions after the current lockdown duration.
