Health Authorities confirm discovery of 05 new cases positive for the COVID-19 virus.
With the latest batch, the total number of positive cases discovered within last 24-hour window have reached to 22.
The positive cases include; 08 contracts from Shaviyani atoll Narudhoo; which include wife of a local vessel captain, their three children and crew members of the vessel.
The vessel, identified as 'Amaaz' travels between Maldives capital Male' City and Shaviyani atoll; to which it belongs. The boat is used for cargo and passenger runs.
All 07 contacts of the boat captain tested positive for the virus. Health Protection Agency (HPA) confirms discovery of 101 direct contacts of the boat captain.
The boat's captain, identified as MAV0133 was confirmed positive for the virus on last Saturday.
The vessel embarked its trip back to origin atoll prior to state's total lockdown declaration on Greater Male' Region, while making stops in various islands of the atoll on 15 and 16 April.
Reports claim a total of 91 passengers were onboard the vessel during its recent trip from Male' City.
The latest development puts total number of discovered positive cases in Maldives at 250 with 233 active cases, 17 recoveries and zero deaths as of now.
