Health Protection Agency HPA extends the current lockdown in Greater Male' Area to 14 days.
In a statement, HPA said the order for 14 days lockdown is enacted under the vested authority to Director General of Public Health Maimoona Aboobakuru in accordance to the Public Health Act with the government announcing a state of public health emergency to fight global Pandemic Covid-19 on 12th March.
HPA said the order dictates complete restriction of movement and stopping public transport services in Greater Male’ Region for the next 14 days.
HPA said during this time driving vehicles and entering public spaces are prohibited in Male’, Vilimale’ and Hulhumale.
It said that Public transportation in Male’, Vilimale’ and Hulhumale’ is stopped.
HPA added that travel from Male’, Vilimale’, Hulhumale, Thilafushi and Gulhifalhu is banned.
HPA said following are exempted from the lockdown order:
- MNDF and Police
- HealthCare Professionals and their vehicles
- Ambulance
- Holders of National Emergency Operation Center (NOEC) Pass
- Medias with NOEC pass
HPA said Police would arrange and coordinate with others to provide essential services during the lockdown.
Seven Maldivian nationals have so far tested positive for Covid-19 in the past three days with more high-risk contacts identified by authorities.
